How to make hot dog buns!

Servings 8 Buns

  • 3 ½ Cups All purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ Tsp Instant Yeast
  • 1 ½ Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Sugar
  • ¼ Cup Melted Butter
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1 Cup Warm Milk

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
  • Make a well in the centre and add in the warm milk, melted butter and 1 egg. Mix with a spatula until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface. Knead the dough by hand, adding additional flour if the dough is very sticky. Knead for about 7 minutes or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Form the kneaded dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, turning it once to coat all sides. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 – 1 ½ hours.
  • Turn the risen dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Deflate the dough and divide it into 8 pieces.
  • Shape each piece into a ball, then flatten slightly and roll into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Roll up tightly from the longer side, pinching the seam and tucking the ends to seal.
  • Place each bun seam-side down onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • Cover the buns with plastic wrap and let them rise until doubled in size, about 30-40 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Once risen, brush the buns with beaten egg and sprinkle with desired toppings.
  • Bake in the middle rack of the oven for about 20 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until the buns are golden brown.
  • Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
