Ingredients
2 ½CupsAll Purpose flour
1Tsp Salt
½teaspoonInstant Yeast(slightly more than half)
1CupWarm Water
1teaspoonHoney(Optional)
Instructions
In a bowl, combine all purpose flour, salt, and slightly more than ½ teaspoon instant yeast.
Add in warm water (optional but recommended: mix honey in the water). Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
Transfer to a flat surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until a smooth and slightly stick dough forms. Cover and allow to rise for 4 hours. (Optional: punch down the dough ever hour to improve the rise)
Once done, place dough onto a floured piece of parchment paper in an oven tray. Poke a hole in the centre and start to expand the whole with your hands until it’s about 5” in diameter in the centre and 9” on the outside. Cover again and allow to rise for 30 min.
Once done, sprinkle ring with some flour and with kitchen scissors, cut deep slits into your ring at a 45 degree angle going all the way around the ring. Pull the leaves out as you cut them. Rotate your tray to maintain the angle.
Preheat your oven to 450 degrees and bake our dough for 20 minutes total. The first 10 minutes, add in a water bath. You will do this by placing your dough on the top rack of your oven and an empty oven tray on the bottom rack. Our 2 cups boiling water into the empty oven tray, and close the oven door immediately. The steam will develop the crust. Remove the water bath after the first 10 minutes.
