This concoction stands out for its minimalistic approach, utilizing just a handful of ingredients to capture the essence of ripe strawberries, enhanced with the natural thickening power of chia seeds. What sets this recipe apart is not just its health benefits but also an unexpected twist: the addition of baking soda, an optional but game-changing ingredient.

Revolutionizing Homemade Jam

Strawberry Chia Jam is not your average preserve. It’s a healthier, fresher alternative to the sugar-laden jams crowding supermarket shelves. This recipe uses nature’s bounty and a sprinkle of culinary magic to create a jam that’s as nutritious as it is delicious.

Step-by-Step Guide to Strawberry Perfection

Let’s walk through the process of transforming strawberries into a delightful jam:

  1. Strawberry Prep: Chop 2 cups of strawberries. Your chopping style influences the jam’s texture, so tailor it to your liking.
  2. The Simmer Dance: In a saucepan, let the strawberries dance over high heat until they bubble and soften, about 5-7 minutes. Gently mash them to your desired consistency.
  3. Chia Seeds Fusion: Stir in 2 tablespoons of chia seeds. These tiny seeds are key to achieving the jam’s perfect consistency.
  4. Baking Soda’s Magic Touch: Here comes the twist – add ¼ teaspoon of baking soda to the mix. Watch as it bubbles, then quickly stir it in. This step is optional but can enhance the jam’s texture and make it more digestible.
  5. Cooling Harmony: Let the jam cool, then store it in a jar. Patience is rewarded with a thick, spreadable jam.

Customizing Your Creation

  • For the Vegan and Gluten-Free: This jam is naturally friendly to both diets, embracing the wholesomeness of its ingredients.
  • Sweetening It Your Way: Adjust the sweetness with maple syrup or honey, tailoring the jam to your taste.

The Unveiling of Baking Soda

Incorporating baking soda into jam might raise eyebrows, but its role is multifaceted. It neutralizes acidity, enhancing digestibility and subtly shifting the flavor profile. Experiment with it to discover your preferences.

Savoring Your Strawberry Chia Jam

Beyond its use as a toast topper, this jam can transform breakfast porridges, yogurts, and even desserts into strawberry-themed delights. Its versatility is only limited by your imagination.

    • 2 Tbsp Chia Seeds
    • ¼ Tsp Baking Soda
    • 1 Tbsp Maple Syrup/Honey (Optional)

    Instructions

    • Cut up strawberries. Cut them bigger or smaller based on the consistency you like your jam. Add them to a sauce pan and place them over high heat.
    • Mix your strawberries over high heat until they release their water and start to soften and bubble (5-7 minutes). Lightly smash your strawberries with your spatula or a fork.
    • Once your strawberries are soft and bubbly, add in lemon juice and chia seeds and mix well.
    • Add in the SECRET ingredient, baking soda. It will bubble, mix quickly till all the bubbles are gone and remove from heat. (The baking soda helps to give your jam a great texture and also neutralize any acids in the jam making it easier to digest. It’s also 100% OPTIONAL.)
