Pretzel Roll Recipe!

Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Rise Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time 2 hours 12 minutes
Servings 12 Rolls

  • 4 ½ Cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tsp salt
  • 2 ¼ Tsp Instant Yeast
  • 1 ½ Cups Warm Water
  • 2 Tbsp Maple Syrup (or honey or sugar)
  • 6 Tbsp Melted Butter
  • 1 Egg
  • Cup Baking Soda

  • Combine all-purpose flour, salt, and instant yeast in a bowl. Make a well in the center, and add warm water, melted butter, and maple syrup.
  • Mix until fully combined, then transfer to a flat surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until a smooth dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add up to ½ a cup extra flour 1 tbsp at a time.
  • Once smooth, grease a bowl, place dough inside, cover with plastic wrap, and allow to rise in a warm place for 1 – 1 ½ hours, until doubled in size.
  • Once doubled, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 even pieces. Roll each piece into a tight ball by flattening it out, pulling the sides to the center and bunching the bottom until you have a smooth, round dough ball.
  • Preheat oven to 400F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. At the same time, bring a large pot of water and baking soda to a boil. Boil 2-3 buns at a time for 30 seconds before draining all the excess water and transferring them to the baking sheet.
  • Place all 12 buns onto a baking sheet in close proximity. With a sharp knife or blade, cut a deep X into the top of each bun. Brush with egg wash (1 egg + 1 tbsp water) and otionally sprinkle with coarse or flaky sea salt.
  • Bake the buns at 400F for 22-27 minutes (until golden, almost brown) and enjoy!
