Ingredients

For the Mix

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon optional
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt optional

For Serving (per cup)

  • 1 cup 8 oz hot milk
  • 2 tablespoon hot cocoa mix
  • Toppings of your choice such as marshmallows, whipped cream, or chocolate shavings

Instructions

  • In a large jar, combine 1 cup sugar, ¾ cup cocoa powder, and, if using, 1 tablespoon cinnamon and 1 teaspoon salt.
  • Seal the jar with the lid and shake for about 30 seconds, until the mix looks one uniform color with no streaks of white sugar.
  • If any clumps remain, stir with a spoon, breaking up pockets of cocoa against the side of the jar.
  • To make one cup, heat 1 cup milk until steaming and just beginning to bubble at the edges, about 2 minutes on the stove or 90 seconds in the microwave.
  • Add 2 tablespoon of the mix to the hot milk (1 tablespoon for every 4 oz of milk) and stir for 20 to 30 seconds, until fully dissolved and no powder floats on top.
  • Top with your favourite toppings and serve right away.
